Commission and Micro-residency

These special commissions embed the selected artists and creatives within their host organisations - inspiring creativity and exchange. Their commissioned work was presented during the 2026 Aberlleiniog Sculpture Trail.

The Start

Mai is spending time with the erratics of Lleniog Beach, learning their origin stories and understanding their complex material makeup. Her monumental scale drawings will be created from natural pigments derived from the landscape itself.

She has begun processing some of the material that she has foraged so far. The long meditative process of soaking, pulverising and grinding the sentiments into smooth, rich pigments. The Lleiniog pigment collection is well under way!

Works in Progress

She is producing four large-scale drawings, monumental observations of the Lleiniog erratics, to be featured at Llangoed Village Hall over the Aberlleiniog Sculpture Trail Weekend (28 & 29th March)

For her final exhibition, four large-scale drawings were shown inside Llangoed Village Hall as part of the 2026 Llwybr Cerfluniau Aberlleiniog Sculpture Trail. These drawings inspired by Anglesey’s coastline and its geological marvels, featuring the erratics on the shoreline at Lleiniog. The natural pigments used are sourced locally and prepared using traditional techniques. Her Lleiniog Beach pigment was also shown, along side some of her tools for material processing.

During the exhibition opening hours, she talked with the audience about her process, the work and the inspiration she has taken from the incredible geology of Ynys Môn
