Patrick Farmer & Jessa Shwayder Carta - Residency

We hosted sound researchers Patrick Farmer & Jessa Shwayder Carta for a week’s residency embedded in the soundscape of Plas Bodfa.

As part of our larger omni-disciplinary work, Tremulations, they coaxed resonant frequencies of certain rooms in Plas Bodfa. This was a kind of homeopathic engagement (thawing frozen light), one of Aquarian listening and psycho acoustics, of emptying and filling, moving toward refinement by way of degradation.

“Our draw to this site stemmed from an obscure victorian era occult novel involving intoning, true names and one of the first appearances of cymatics in fictional literature.”

“We were so moved by the process of making the inaudible audible that we decided to try and make the invisible visible by ‘toning’ video we made with a charm of goldfinches and a heron, both of whom were ever present thanks to the pond and wildflower meadow that Julie and her family have helped to generate.

After several revolutions of ‘toning’, a type of defocalisation emerged, not dissimilar to images we glean from the realms of molecular biology and entheogenic experiences.

It’s highly likely that the tones recorded at Plas Bodfa will be saved for in person listening. We’re hopeful an exhibition will come together in early 2026.”
