'Germinal' Zoë Skoulding

Return to Unus Multorum 2020

The French revolutionaries of 1789 invented a new calendar that replaced saints' days with the names of vegetables, flowers, animals and agricultural tools, matching each month to its season. This sequence of poems from A Revolutionary Calendar (available from Shearsman Books) responds to the month of Germinal (20th March – 18th April).
